Adoption

Children and youth deserve a safe, loving and nurturing home.  When children have lived in
families that have not been able to provide such an environment, foster care and adoption
often can provide a loving home where children have their needs met and are able to get
back on track in healthy development.

Children do not need perfect parents -- just one or two loving individuals willing to meet the
unique challenges of parenting and make a lasting commitment to caring for children.  Almost
any responsible adult can become a foster or adoptive parent.  Adoptive parents are 18 or
older, can be married or single, do not need to own their own home or earn a high income, or
have previous parenting experience.  You need to be patient and loving and to provide a safe,
nurturing home.  Adoptive parents must be willing to learn about the needs of the children and
receive training.  Most important is being able to open your heart and your home to a child who
may need special attention and guidance.

Waiting children are in a time of transition and change whose families are unwilling or unable to care for them.  They are a diverse group of African-American, Multi-ethnic, and Caucasian children, including pre-teens and teens.  Some are eight years old or younger.  Some have disabilities and special needs.  Many have brothers and sisters and need to be placed together.
