GROUP THERAPY

All residents participate in group therapy with their cottage peers 7 days per week for 3 hours per day. Group curriculum focuses on a variety of relevant topics from trust to emotional regulation to independent living and everything in between. Activities and discussions are interactive and geared towards the development/age/gender of cottage residents.

PRIMARY THERAPIST

Each residential cottage has a primary therapist who meets with youth individually 1-2 times per week to start the trauma work process, discuss social skills, work on self-esteem/self-worth needs, etc. The primary therapist writes individualized treatment plans and ensures that they are followed in all aspects of their stay here.

CLINICAL SUPPORT PROVIDER

Residents will also benefit from services through their cottage’s clinical support provider. The clinical support provider is frequently in the milieu with residents and focuses on social skills, hygiene, utilizing coping skills, etc. This role reinforces topics and skills introduced in individual therapy.

CLINICAL CASE MANAGER

Each residential cottage also has a clinical case manager to help reinforce social skills, behavioral motivations, etc. The clinical case manager makes sure that residents receive all the needed services on their treatment plans and schedules them accordingly. This role reinforces what the primary therapist is working on in individual therapy. The clinical case manager will be your main contact with CCHO.

MUSIC/ENGAGEMENT THERAPIST

Residents will also meet weekly with our music/engagement therapist for 2-3 weeks at the beginning of their stay. The engagement therapist will focus on overall connection within the program, discovering residents’ likes/dislikes, problem solving if there are integration challenges, etc. Music therapy can also help with right-brain overactivity, emotional regulation, sensory needs and social skills.

EQUINE THERAPIST

Residents also have the opportunity to participate in our One Heart Stables equine therapy program. On-campus equine services focus on connection (building trust in the horse, in him/herself and in others) in addition to biofeedback and laying more foundation for intensive trauma work. We have two equine therapists that work with our residential youth on a 12-week rotation.

CLINICAL ROLES & SERVICES

Our Children’s Residential Center provides a safe, structured environment to meet the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of abused and neglected children from all across Ohio. Through a compassionate clinical team, we offer a wide range of therapeutic services to youth ages 6 to 18. Treatment plans are tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident. Read through our clinical roles and services below.

INTENSIVE TRAUMA THERAPIST

When therapeutic progress is made in equine therapy and individual therapy, residents are referred to intensive trauma therapy. Our trauma therapist helps residents understand how trauma affects the brain and works with them to create a timeline of trauma events in their lives in preparation for intense processing through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

FAMILY INTEGRATION THERAPIST

Our family integration therapist steps in to ensure success when residents transition back into family and community life. We are currently establishing an aftercare program to provide further support to help our kids and families stay on track well after they’re back in the community.
