We are honored to introduce our April 2026 Difference Maker, Sofia Gallo!

Each month, we have the privilege of highlighting someone whose generosity and heart make a lasting impact on the children and teens we serve. For April, we are honored to celebrate Sofia Gallo, a faithful supporter whose prayers, encouragement, and financial contributions continue to help children at the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio discover hope and healing.

Sofia may live miles away in Seattle, but the love she has for vulnerable kids reaches all the way to our campus in Wooster—and it’s making a difference every single day.

Sofia describes herself as an adventurer at heart. Living in Seattle, she spends her days as a User Experience Researcher at Meta, working at the intersection of people and technology to help shape next-generation tools like AI and smart glasses. Outside of work, she’s often found reading fiction with a cup of coffee in hand, exploring the city with friends, or seeking out adrenaline-packed adventures from skydiving to roller coasters.

Her life is full. But she’s intentional about making room for something more: giving back in meaningful ways.

A Simple Search That Changed Everything

Sofia’s connection to CCHO didn’t begin with a dramatic moment or a long-standing personal tie. It began quietly—in a season where she finally had the financial margin to consider giving beyond her local church.

With a particular desire to support older kids, a group she knew was often overlooked in the child welfare world, she searched the ECFA directory for ministries serving children and families. That search led her straight to CCHO. What started as a practical search turned into something much deeper.

Although Sofia doesn’t have direct experience with foster care, she carries a deep, God-given passion for supporting kids—especially older ones who are too often left without advocates.

Part of that passion comes from her own story of growing up visually impaired. She shared that her mother was her fiercest advocate, stepping in whenever someone set low expectations for her or assumed she couldn’t achieve something because of her vision. That advocacy changed the trajectory of her life.

“Not every child has someone like that,” she said. “Supporting CCHO is my way of standing in the gap for kids who deserve the same love and unconditional support I was given.”

Sofia remembers clearly the moment that solidified her trust in CCHO.

After her very first donation, she received a phone call—not an automated message, but a real person reaching out with gratitude.

That simple act spoke volumes.

“It showed me immediately that this was a ministry that values people,” she shared.

And as she became a Campus Champion, that impression only grew. She appreciates that CCHO doesn’t just share polished success stories—but is transparent about the hard moments too.

“That honesty is rare,” she said. “It convinced me my giving was truly making an impact.”

Sofia’s Encouragement to Future Supporters

When asked what she would say to someone considering supporting our mission, Sofia didn’t hesitate:

“Go for it. And if you have questions, ask them. This is one of the few ministries where transparency isn’t just a buzzword.”

Sofia dreams of adopting one day. But until God opens that door, she finds joy in knowing that children on our campus are surrounded by people who care for them deeply—people who remind them of their worth in Christ, one compassionate act at a time.

“I’m grateful to be one of those people,” she said.

Sofia's commitment to children from hard places, her belief in every child’s God-given potential, and her faithful support make her a true Difference Maker. We are so grateful as she stands in the gap for young people who deserve to be seen, valued, and championed. Her generosity is helping shape stories of healing that will last a lifetime.
