Since opening in 1995, One Heart Stables has been utilized by the youth served in the Children’s Residential Center at CCHO. These children have experienced extreme abuse and neglect, and that trauma often makes it difficult for them to connect with others or even deal with the demands of everyday life. One Heart Stables therapy horses give CCHO residents a chance to engage in an honest, non-judgmental relationship, and the skills learned in developing a relationship with a horse then can be easily translated to developing relationships with people. With each therapeutic session, we strive for our clients to gain self confidence, improve their mental and physical capabilities, and engage in social relationships with staff and volunteers.
Our equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) program has expanded to serve children and adults in the general public as an outpatient mental health service of Encompass Christian Counseling. Learn more about this specialized program and our compassionate licensed staff today.
Volunteer at One Heart Stables
Serve using your passions and gifts at One Heart Stables. A Helping Hand volunteer focuses on general stable maintenance, equine care, and upkeep of barn, pastures, trails and riding arena. A Horse Leader/Side Walker serves with a focus on assisting clients by taking the responsibility of leading the horse or walking along both sides assuring the rider is safe and stable during therapeutic sessions. Contact us through our online volunteer inquiry form today.
One Heart Stables Compost
One Heart Stables now has compost available for a donation. Support critical therapy for hurting kids and adults at CCHO and enjoy high-quality, natural compost for your garden. Make your gift by cash or check payble to CCHO at the time of pick-up.
How it works
You must call ahead to place your order and schedule a pick-up time weekdays between 8am and 6pm. Pull up to the composting bays next to the red barn and our staff will load the product into your trunk or truck. You do not have to bring your own container, but we request that you remain in your vehicle.
Compost is available year-round. For more information and to schedule a pick-up, contact John Plegge at 330.621.1671.
