Cameron enjoyed simply being a kid

Cameron carries a long history of neglect and abandonment. Because of his mother’s drug addiction and mental health struggles, Cameron was forced to become the “man” of the house at a very young age.

There were many times when food was scarce, and Cameron was left to care for himself and his younger brother. He experienced homelessness, violence, and abandonment from his father, leaving him feeling unloved, unsafe, and forgotten.

You made sure Cameron was safe and received care for his unique needs. Because of you, he’s able to just be a kid, exploring new activities in a positive way and building his self-esteem. You have given him the safe space to discover his true worth in Christ.

Having never experienced a positive adult role model, at first, Cameron struggled to trust the staff and resisted their attempts to help, believing they didn’t truly care.

But your generosity made healing possible. Through months of consistent care, Cameron slowly began to feel safe.

Before his discharge, Cameron was given the opportunity to choose a “bucket list” outing. He had two simple requests: to play basketball with the staff and to attend a Cleveland Cavaliers game. He was able to do both — enjoying every moment of simply being a kid.

When Cameron learned that a foster home was ready to welcome him, he was excited. Still, he asked if he could stay just a few more days because he had built such meaningful connections with his peers and staff.

Because of your generosity, Cameron has experienced true healing, meaningful relationships, and now has a loving family to call home.

PS: If you’re inspired by Cameron's story and would like to do even more, you can provide a fun summer outing to a child like Cameron for just $30. Your gift will give a fun and encouraging off-campus outing to a child who has suffered abuse and neglect at home.
