CCHO is honored to have received the Spring Competitive Community Grant from the Wayne County Community Foundation. This generous funding covered the expenses of completely renovating the kitchen in our young girls cottage. As we provide compassionate and consistent care in our children’s residential center, this grant will ensure a safe and comfortable home for our young residents.

The young girls' cottage, built in 1983, now serves as a therapeutic living space for up to nine girls between the ages of 6 and 11. Prior to the renovation, the kitchen was mostly original and very outdated. We had broken appliances, extremely old cabinetry, and worn flooring. Our goal was to transform this space to better support both the daily and therapeutic needs of the girls who live there, as well as the staff who care for them.

We replaced the outdated and deteriorating kitchen fixtures with durable, child-friendly materials. All major appliances were replaced with modern, energy-efficient models that better meet the cooking and dietary needs of our young residents.

Since the renovation has been completed, we have experienced increased efficiency and safety during meal preparation, and residents expressed more interest in mealtime activities. The young girls have also been able to engage in more group cooking sessions, which enhance life skills and therapeutic bonding. The kitchen renovation has successfully improved safety, functionality, and overall therapeutic value for both staff and residents of the cottage.

This transformation was made possible by the Wayne County Community Foundation. The Foundation has provided a safe and welcoming place for these girls to experience hope and healing. Thank you, Wayne County Community Foundation, for investing in the future of our kids!
