Trauma therapy goes outdoors
Updated: Dec 8, 2021
The summer months are a great time for our art and trauma therapy program to try different ventures with our youth. The warmer weather gives participants the opportunity to explore outdoor art activities and gardening projects. In the early fall, Leah Mendez, residential art and trauma therapist, has even taught the kids how to do some canning and food preservation.
Enjoy the photos below of the kids’ current projects. The boys have really enjoyed gardening and the outdoor work. “There is also a lot of interest right now in collage,” Leah said. “The younger and special-needs residents like this activity because they can express themselves without needing advanced fine motor skills.” Additionally, Leah and the kids really enjoy making tie-dye shirts in the summer.
